Abstract

In Indonesia, nickel is evidently found in the form of nickel-laterite, resulted from weathering processes of ultramafic rocks. According to data of Statistic Central Agency, the average total of export from nickel from 2002 up to 2014 was 17.103.785 ton/year. It shows, then, that sustained exploration of nickel is highly required to satisfy necessity of related industry. One of phases in this exploration is determining of sedimentation volume. This research is aimed to make determining of nickel-laterite sedimentation’s volume in the field of D.I.B, Pomalaa, South-East Sulawesi based on sedimentation model obtained from resistivity method. By this method, it can differentiate resistivity contrast between bedrock and nickel-laterite sedimentation. Hence, the research used secondary data of resistivity sounding method at 13 lines, directed on west-east and drilling data of 17 spots. As result, this research found that nickel-laterite in Pomalaa could be divided into 3 zones based on their resistivity, comprising of lateritic soil’s zone having resistivity value of 5-55 ohm.m, peridotite boulder’s zone having resistivity value of 56-170 ohm.m, and bedrock’s zone becoming the most bottom zone by its resistivity value of 171-3000 ohm.m. The thickness of nickel-lateric sedimentation averagely based on resistivity data was 9 meters with the suitability level between the result of 2D inversion and drilling data of 89%. According to such resistivity data, 4 models of 3D were, then, made with total of sedimentation volume of 4.011.248 m3. It is hoped that sedimentation volume based on exploration of geo-electricity of sounding method could be able to provide early accurate portrayal concerning on nickel-laterite sedimentation and become reference in further mining activity.
