Abstract

Shape Memory Alloys (SMA’s) adalah logam paduan yang memiliki kemampuan reversible setelah dideformasi pada temperatur tertentu (disebut sebagai efek shape memory). Shape memory alloys dapat diaplikasikan pada pembuatan pesawat luar angkasa, actuator, otomotif, dll. Paduan Cu-Zn-Al dapat disebut sebagai shape memory alloys jika memiliki fasa martensit pada struktur mikronya. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pengecoran dengan metode open mold dimana 23,6% Zn dipadukan dengan 5 % Al dan Cu balanced. Hasil dari pengecoran, diberikan proses perlakuan panas homogenizing, annealing, solution treatment dan di dinginkan cepat dengan media pendingin (brine solution, air, oli dan udara) untuk mengetahui pengaruhnya terhadap efek shape memory dan struktur mikro Cu-23,6 Zn-5 Al shape memory alloys. Dari hasil pengujian, didapatkan bahwa disemua variasi media pendingin memiliki efek shape memory dan media pendingin brine solution memiliki efek shape memory paling besar dibanding yang lain, yaitu 86,87%. Selain itu, pada semua spesimen variasi media pendingin terdapat fasa α, β, dan γ dan juga terbentuk fasa martensit yang muncul diatas permukaan fasa α dan β.

Shape Memory Alloys (SMA’s) is metal alloys which have reversible abilities after being deformed at certain temperatures (referred to as shape memory effect). Shape memory alloys can be applied to the manufacture of spacecraft, actuators, automotive and etc. Cu-Zn-Al alloys can be referred to as shape memory alloys if they have a martensite phase in their microstructure. In this study, casting was done using the open mold casting method where 23,6% Zn was combined with 5% Al and Cu balanced. The result of the casting are given homogenizing treatment, annealing treatment, solution treatment and quenching with cooling media (brine solution, water, oil, and air) to determine shape memory effect and microstructure of Cu – 23,6 Zn – 5 Al shape memory alloys. From the test result, it was found that in all cooling media variations had shape memory effect and brine solution cooling media had the largest shape memory effect compared the others, which was 86, 87%. In addition, at all specimens of cooling media variations there are phases of α, β and γ and also formed martensit phase that appear above the surface of phase α and β.
