Abstract

Clutch friction plate on motorized vehicles generally uses fiber asbestos material. Asbestos material has carcinogenic properties and is dangerous for humans. Therefore, asbestos replacement reinforcement material is needed. Composite reinforced bagasse is one of the alternative clutch material that is environmentally friendly. This study uses epoxy resin reinforced bagasse fiber, copper powder and compliant in the form of MAPP. The formulation of the problem from this research is how the influence of the variation of bagasse composition on the physical properties, hardness and wear rate of epoxy resin reinforced bagasse and copper powder composites. Test carried out were SEM test, density test, water and oil absorption test, hardness test. Besides that, the composite also be tested with ogoshi machines to determine the specific wear values of the composites and comercial clutch, and FTIR tests to identify the chemical bonds that appear on the composite. The test results showed that the highest hardness value was 35% bagasse with a hardness value of 79,167 HD, the wear value that is close to the comercial clutch was 35% bagasse composition with a wear value of 4.83 x 10-8 mm2 /kg, while the wear value of the comercial clutch was estimated at 4.73 x 10-8 mm2/kg.
