Abstract

In 2013, based on the Forestry Office of Ngawi Regency, teak wood is the main commodity in its regency with the total of wood production 14.655,5 m3. In 2018, Perhutani budgeted 10 billion rupiahs for purchasing an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for forest monitoring – which includes tree counting – to accelerate forests planning and management. However, it still becomes a discourse theory because of the ability limitation of its workers so that until now still done by the field observing that take a lot of time. Methods that can be used for teak tree counting quickly and precisely are an interpretation and classification using aerial photo data. The results of interpretation method is obtained that there are 5648 large teak trees and 6152 small teak trees. The results of classification method, is much different from the result of interpretation method. In interpretation method, the area of the large teak tree 24,489 hectares, meanwhile by using classification method is 10,837 hectares, resulting a decrease 55.75%. By using the interpretation method, the area of the small teak tree class is 3.719 hectares meanwhile by using classification method is obtained 8,152 hectares so that it increases 219.2%. In the mahogany tree class there increased by 426.93% and the trembesi tree class decreased by 40.63% against the results of interpretation method. The results of accuracy test of interpretation method is obtained 96,7% with kappa index 0,96. The method suggested for tree counting is interpretation.
