Abstract

At present, driving comfort facilities are very much considered. This is because the noise generated by motorized vehicles is getting higher and thus disrupts driving comfort. For that we need material that can reduce noise by absorbing sound in the interior of the vehicle. Polyester composite reinforced with ramie fiber and bamboo fiber is one of the alternative sound-absorbing materials that are environmentally friendly and can be used in car interiors. This research was conducted to analyze composite materials Unsaturated Polyester Resin (UPR) reinforced by ramie fiber and bamboo to be a sound absorbing materials. The aim was to analyze a good relation between morphological structure, Sound Trnasmission Class value, physical properties, and mechanical properties with given weight percent. The mass fraction of this study is 15% Ramie Fiber, 10% Ramie Fiber + 5% Bamboo Fiber, and 5% Ramie Fiber + 10% Bamboo Fiber. Specimens were also tested by Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) to identified chemical bond of UPR / Ramie Fiber / Bamboo Fiber composites. The test results showed that the value of Sound Transmission Loss (STL) which has the higest value in the range 61-72 in three variation of composite at the frequency of 1000 Hz. The density of composites decreases with the addition of weight percent bamboo fiber due to the appearance of the pore. And the tensile strength also decreases with addition of weight percent bamboo fiber from 9,4 MPa to 6 Mpa and 5,9 MPa.
