Abstract

Optimization of adsorption conditions of Remazol Red 5B synthetic dyes with activated carbon adsorbent has been researched. Remazol Red 5B is a reactive dyestuff that is difficult to decipher so that it can have a negative impact on the environment if the waste is discharged directly without any treatment. The adsorption method was used to reduce the concentration of Remazol Red 5B dyes in the environment. The adsorption process in this study used a batch method. The absorbance of adsorption solution was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at the maximum wavelength. The effect of contact time, adsorbent mass, initial concentration of the dye solution, and pH of the dye solution were studied to obtain optimum conditions that can produce maximum % removal and maximum adsorption capacity. The optimum time for adsorption of Remazol Red 5B using activated carbon is 90 minutes with % removal of 85.67%, optimum mass of adsorbent 10 mg in 25 mL solution with % removal 85.67%, optimum initial concentration of 100 ppm with % removal of 91. 10%, and the optimum pH at pH 3 and 13 with % removal each of 100.00%. The maximum adsorption capacity is reaching 321.76 mg /g.
