Abstract

Macro debris merupakan bahan padat persisten yang sengaja atau tidak sengaja dibuang ke badan air yang memiliki panjang 2,5 - 100 cm. Sampah macro debris dapat ditemukan di sungai, danau, laut atau badan air lainnya. Sampah tersebut berasal dari sampah rumah tangga dan atau sampah sejenis sampah rumah tangga. Keberadaan macro debris dapat mengancam ekosistem dan menurunkan kualitas air permukaan, termasuk Kali Surabaya. Kali Surabaya digunakan sebagai sumber air baku untuk pemenuhan kebutuhan air bersih penduduk Kota Surabaya. Keberadaan macro debris berpotensi membahayakan kesehatan masyarakat Kota Surabaya dan rusaknya ekosistem Kali Surabaya diakibatkan akumulasi sampah yang dibuang ke sungai setiap tahunnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi dan menentukan kelimpahan, komposisi, karakteristik dan distribusi macro debris di Kali Surabaya. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari hingga April 2019 di enam titik sampling dari hulu hingga hilir. Sampel macro debris diambil pada 3 kedalaman air (permukaan, tengah, dan dasar); masing-masing pada tepi kanan, kiri, dan tengah sungai. Metode sampling menggunakan metode standar sampling air yang dimodifikasi dengan manta trawl net berukuran pori 300 µm. Meso dan mikro debris dipisahkan sebelum dilakukan indentifikasi. Sampel diawetkan dengan alkohol 90%, lalu disortasi berdasarkan size class box dan borang tipe macro debris. Pengambilan sampel untuk pengukuran parameter suhu, pH, dan densitas air dilakukan dengan menggunakan Van Dorn sampler. Pengukuran kecepatan arus sungai menggunakan current meter. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Februari – April 2019 untuk menentukan kelimpahan, komposisi, karakteristik, dan distribusi macro debris. Sampling dilakukan dengan 2 kali pengulangan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan metode statistik sederhana berupa tabel dan grafik. Kelimpahan rata-rata tertinggi pada setiap kedalaman berada pada titik setelah DAM Jagir di hilir Kali Surabaya, yaitu sebesar 0,59 item/m3 dengan konsentrasi 1,16 g/m3. Komponen sampah yang dominan pada setiap titik adalah sampah kebun (27%-65%). Adapun macro debris jenis plastik yang dominan adalah HDPE (5%-88%). Distribusi ukuran macro debris yang paling dominan adalah 4-8 cm (kelas 2). Jumlah item tertinggi ditemukan pada titik setelah DAM Jagir, yaitu sebanyak 52 item.

Macro debris are persistent solid material intentionally or unintentionally dumped in the surface water with length range between 2,5 – 100 cm. Macro debris is generally found in river, lake, sea, or other surface water. The waste is originated from household or household-waste-equivalent solid waste. The existence of macro debris could possibly threaten the ecosystem and the surface water quality, including the Surabaya River. The Surabaya River is used as raw water source for public water supply. Macro debris in the raw water could potentially endanger public health and deteriorate the river ecosystem, which is caused by solid waste disposal and accumulation. This research is aimed to identify and to determine the abundance, composition, characteristics and distribution of macro debris in Surabaya River. This research was conducted from February to April 2019 in six sampling locations from the upper to the lower parts of Surabaya River. Each sampling location was sampled along 3 horizontal paths (left, middle, right) in 3 vertical points (surface, middle and bottom). Samples were collected using manta trawl net of 300 µm pore size. Meso and micro debris were separated prior to identification stage. The macro debris samples were preserved using alcohol 90%. The samples were sorted according to size class box and shape. Water samples for measurement of temperature, pH and density were collected using Van Dorn sampler. The water current was measured using current meter. Sample collection was repeated two times. Simple statistic method (table and graph) was applied for data analysis. The highest macro debris abundance (0.59 item/m3, or 1.16 g/m3) was observed at the downstream site of the Jagir dam. The main macro debris component was garden waste (27%-65%). HDPE was the most dominant plastic component (5%-88%). Size of the macro debris was mostly 4-8 cm (Class 2). The highest number of items (52) was found in the site downstream of the Jagir dam.
