Abstract

The urban development of Pekalongan City was in the form of an increase in urban activities which along with the increasing number of residents could have an impact on decreasing environmental quality, including global warming and air pollution. One of the causes of global warming was CO2 emissions. One solution that could be done to reduce the impact of global warming was to increase green open space (RTH). Pekalongan City Government had conducted a program to provide public RTH, but the percentage of public RTH in Pekalongan City was still around 18% of the total area of Pekalongan City. The research was conducted by calculating CO2 emissions from transportation, settlement and industrial activities. The data used to calculate CO2 emissions were data on the number of vehicles per hour, LPG usage, population, and number of livestock. Calculation of absorption CO2 emissions by existing open green space was carried out based on the number and type of protective trees, as well as the extent of vegetation cover in the existing open space. Furthermore, CO2 emissions and absorption of green open space were compared to assess the provision of existing open green space in Pekalongan City.
The analysis showed that public green open space was still insufficient to absorb CO2 emissions. The existing public green open space of Pekalongan City with an area of 122.82 hectares was able to absorb CO2 emissions of 1202.61 kg CO2 / hour or by 9.03% of the total amount of 54,804.48 kg CO2 / hour.
