Abstract

Pada mesin cooler, terdapat beberapa komponen dan salah satunya yaitu shaft pinion yang memiliki fungsi untuk menggerakan pinion gear dan dari gerakannya itu dapat memutar rotary klin dari mesin cooler tersebut. Shaft pinion dipabrik II PT. Petrokimia Gresik mengalami failure saat waktu pemakaian 3 tahun dari waktu perkiraan pemakaian 10 tahun sehingga menghambat proses produksi pada pabrik tersebut. Dalam proses oprasinya shaft pinion dituntut agar memiliki kekuatan yang tinggi sehingga waktu pakai lebih lama. Dengan proses heat treatment maka sifat mekanik berupa kekuatan dapat ditingkatkan, selain itu dengan proses heat treatment juga dapat merubah struktur mikro material menjadi martensite yang memiliki sifat kekerasan yang baik. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan pengujian yang meliputi uji komposisi, metalografi, hardness. Proses perlakuan panas yang dilakukan adalah proses hardening dengan temperatur 815oC dan 900oC dengan waktu holding 120 menit. Setelah melakukan pemanasan, spesimen

In the cooler engine, there are several components and one of them is a pinion shaft that has the function to move the pinion gear and from the movement it can rotate the rotary of the engine cooler. Shaft pinion in factory II PT. Petrokimia Gresik experienced a failure when the use of 3 years from the estimated time of use of 10 years that hinder the production process at the plant. In its opacity process, pinion shafts are required to have mechanical properties resistant to repetitive loads and torsional loads. With the process of heat treatment, the mechanical properties of toughness can be improved, in addition to the heat treatment process can also change the micro structure of the material into martensite which has good hardness properties. In this study conducted tests include composition tests, metallography, hardness tests. The heat treatment process is hardening process with temperature 8150C and 9000C with 120 minutes duration. After heating, the specimen after cooling with oil cooling medium, and reheated again to 5800C temperature then in holding with variation of time 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes and cooled in with air. Obtained a value of hardness that meets the standard that is with hardening temperature treatment 8150C with holding time tempering process for 90 minutes of 290 HV and has a micro structure consisting of martensite temper.
