Abstract

KNKT stated that there were 127 fatalities due to train accidents from 2011 to 2015. One of the causes was the low level of knowledge of passengers regarding safety standards on train. The survey shows that evacuation guide videos and the introduction of safety facilities provided by PT KAI are not effective in providing information for passengers. PT INKA as an interior and safety facility designer need to review the exiting evacuation system of the passenger train. Therefore the virtual reality-based evacuation stimulator is designed to see human behavior and human performance as a basis for reviewing the effectiveness of passenger train safety facilities. A total of 24 participants were recruited to play virtual reality-based evacuation simulators segmented into their gender and experience. The scenarios constructed are the combination result of passenger seat type, assignment type, and fire location type. Simulation is developed using virtual reality application. The simulation is ran using Samsung A8+ and Samsung Gear VR. The experiment results of the human behavior measurement shows that exit door is more preferred for evacuation. While the results of human performance measurement shows a different variable combination of reaction time, completion time, and error rate. The questionnaire results show that the reusability level of the simulators need to be improved, in order to increase comfortness for the simulator usability. The measurement results from the simulation shows that safety facilities have not been effective in providing evacuation options. Therefore, efforts need to be made to improve safety facilities effectiveness.
