Abstract
PT. Agro-Industry (PT. AI) is one of industry in Indonesia that moves in the sector of agro-industry. One of the chemical product formulation processes that is done in the PT. AI are the formulation of cypermethrin and Para-xylene to create insecticide which is categorized as hazardous material towards human health and ecosystem (environment). This study is intended to assess the environmental impact and identify improvement opportunity to reduce environmental impact. Environmental impact assessment will be focused on the materials, processes, and waste within planning, production, and waste treatment activity. The environmental impact is assessed by Life Cycle Assessment approach and visualized by using Green-VSM. Life cycle assessment approach or framework that is used in this study is started from goal & scope development, life cycle inventory analysist (LC Inventory Analysist), life cycle impact asessement (LC Impact Assessment) and interpretation. Life cycle assessment will assess the environmental impact that is caused by material, process, and waste generation which then the results will be included in Green-VSM. The integration between Green-VSM and LCA is intended to visualize the material, process and waste flow which are equiped with its environmental impact value. The environmental impact assessment result indicates that human health (97.14% of impact) is the most damaged environmental aspect by the formulation process, damaged by 0.01 DALY or equals to 714.068 points. Ecosystem quality is the second most damaged environmental aspect, damaged by 361.45 PDF*m2y or equals to 20.528 points. Resources is the least damaged environmental aspect, damaged by 5.9 MJ or equals to 0.8 Points. By analyzing the source of the impact, which mostly originated by the materials, this study identifies four opportunities improvement which consists of cardboard box redesign, caps sorting, sealing process procedure change, and material substitution towards bottle packaging. C Respectively, the environmental impact reduction from those improvement opportunities are 8.675 points, 3.548 points, 0.0008 points, and 2.915 points, resulting reduction of 15.138 points in total.
