Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh tebal inti (core) terhadap kekuatan bending secara eksperimen pada komposit sandwich berpenguat serat sabut kelapa ( coco fiber) dan matrik polyester. Variasi tebal core adalah 20 mm, 30 mm,dan 40 mm, sedangkan tebal skin adalah konstan sebesar 6 mm. Metode pengujian yang dipakai untuk mengetahui kekakuan bending secara eksperimen adalah Three Point Bending (TPB). Standar pengujian yang digunakan adalah ASTM C393-00. Pada penelitian ini komposit dibentuk seperti sandwich, dua buah skin yang mengapit core, skin dibuat dengan teknik hand lay up berbahan dasar polyester diperkuat serat tumbuhan dari limbah industri berupa serat sabut kelapa. Core yang terbuat dari polyurethane dimaksudkan untuk menurunkan berat jenis komposit dan menambah kekakuannya sehingga layak diaplikasikan. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kekuatan bending rata-rata untuk tebal sandwich 20 mm, 30 mm, dan 40 mm berturut-turut adalah 1.453 Mpa, 0.610 Mpa , 0.841 Mpa.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of core thickness on bending strength in experiments on fiber composite sandwich coco fiber and polyester matrix. The variation of core thickness is 20 mm, 30 mm and 40 mm, while the skin thickness is a constant of 6 mm. Test methods used to determine the flexure stiffness is experimentally Three Point Bending (TPB). The standard test used was ASTM C 393-00. In this study, the composite was formed as a sandwich, two pieces that flank the core skin, skin is made by hand lay-up technique based fiber reinforced polyester plant of industrial waste in the form of coconut fibers. Core made of cardboard paper is intended to reduce weight and increase rigidity of composite type, so decent applied. From the results of this research concluded that the average flexure stiffness to the sandwich 20 mm, 30 mm and 40 mm thickness respectively was 1.453 Mpa, 0.610 Mpa, 0.841 Mpa.
