Abstract

Komposit dengan matriks non-logam banyak digunakan pada berbagai produk seiring dengan berkembangnya teknologi dibidang manufaktur. Komposisi dari komposit ini juga sangat beragam, namun komposit yang banyak digunakan pada penelitian sebelumnya adalah komposit Epoxy-Hollow Glass Microsphere(HGM)-Serat. Komposit Epoxy-HGM-Serat memiliki keunggulan yaitu memiliki massa jenis yang rendah dan tidak dapat terkorosi. Serat yang berpotensi untuk digunakan adalah serat nanas, karena banyak tersedia di Indonesia dan memiliki kekuatan tarik tinggi. Pada komposit Epoxy-HGM-Serat Nanas perlu dilakukan penelitian untuk mengetahui rasio fraksi volume HGM terbaik. Pada penelitian terdahulu rasio fraksi volume HGM yang digunakan sebesar 16% dengan jenis serat berbeda beda. Rasio tersebut berdasarkan penelitian bahwa komposit epoxy-HGM dengan fraksi volume HGM 16% memiliki ketangguhan paling baik. Komposit pada penelitian tersebut hanya menggunakan satu jenis penguat yaitu HGM. Komposit Epoxy-HGM-Serat Nanas memiliki dua jenis penguat yaitu HGM dan serat nanas sehingga memiliki kondisi yang berbeda. Pengujian yang dilakukan adalah pengujian tekan, tarik, dan impact. Spesimen uji diproduksi sesuai ASTM D695 untuk uji tekan, ASTM D-638-03 untuk uji tarik, dan ASTM D5942 untuk uji impact. Fraksi volume serat nanas adalah 30% dari volume total komposit epoxy-HGM-serat nanas. Variasi fraksi volume HGM 5% sampai 30% dari volume total epoxy-HGM dengan kenaikan 5% tiap spesimen. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan dapat diketahui pengaruh penambahan fraksi volume HGM terhadap karakteristik tarik, tekan, impact komposit Epoxy-HGM-Serat Nanas. Penambahan fraksi volume HGM meningkatkan kekuatan tekan komposit. Kekuatan tekan komposit paling tinggi sebesar 68,54 MPa didapatkan pada penambahan fraksi volume HGM 25%.. Penambahan fraksi volume HGM menurunkan kekuatan tarik komposit. Kekuatan tarik paling rendah yaitu 38,24 MPa didapatkan pada penambahan fraksi volume HGM 30%. Titik maksimal penambahan fraksi volume HGM pada uji impact komposit yaitu 20% HGM. Kekuatan impact komposit dengan penambahan fraksi volume HGM 20% sebesar 1760 kJ/m2.

Composites with non-metallic matrix are widely used in various products along with the development of technology in manufacturing. The compositions of composites are also very diverse, but the composites that are widely used in previous studies are Epoxy-Hollow Glass Microsphere (HGM)-Fiber composite. Epoxy-HGM-Fiber composites have the advantage of having low density and cannot corrode. The fiber that has the potential to be used is pineapple fiber, since it is widely available in Indonesia and has high tensile strength. In the Pineapple Fiber Epoxy-HGM composite, a research is needed to determine the best HGM volume fraction ratio. In the previous study the ratio of fraction of HGM volume used was 16% with different types of fiber. The ratio is based on research that the epoxy-HGM composite with 16% HGM volume fraction has the best toughness. Composites in the study only used one type of reinforcement, HGM. Epoxy-HGM Composite - Pineapple Fiber has two types of reinforcements those are HGM and pineapple fiber so that they have different conditions. The tests performed are compressive, tensile and impact testing. Test specimens were produced according to ASTM D695 for compressive tests, ASTM D-638-03 for tensile tests, and ASTM D5942 for impact tests. The volume fraction of pineapple fiber is 30% of the total volume of epoxy-HGM-pineapple fiber composites. The variation in HGM volume fraction is 5% to 30% of the total epoxy-HGM volume with a 5% increase in each specimen. From the research conducted, it can be seen the effect of the addition of HGM volume fraction on the tensile, compressive, impact characteristics of Epoxy-HGM-Pineapple Fiber composites. The addition of HGM volume fraction increases composite compressive strength. Highest composite compressive strength 68.54 MPa was obtained by increasing volume fraction HGM 25%. The addition of HGM volume fraction decreases composite tensile strength. The lowest tensile strength 38.24 MPa was obtained by increasing the volume fraction HGM 30%. Maximum point of addition of HGM volume fraction in composite impact test is 20% HGM. The impact strength of composites with the addition of 20% HGM volume fraction is 1760 kJ/m2.
