Abstract

Kejahatan dan Kriminalitas telah ada sejak zaman ketika Nabi Adam mencuri buah khuldi dan terusir dari surga hingga pada zaman modern saat ini. Bentuk hukuman yang di jatuhkan pada kesalahan tersebut juga beragam, mulai dari mediasi, pengurungan hingga eksekusi. Setelah berbagai macam evolusi, lahirlah sebuah sistem penghukuman manusia yang biasa kita sebut penjara. Penjara merupakan sebuah sistem penghukuman kepada manusia yang melakukan kesalahan, yang berakhir dari mulai penahanan hingga eksekusi yang tentunya telah dilindungi oleh hukum yang berlaku pada wilayah tersebut. Namun seiring berjalannya waktu, kehadiran penjara dianggap tidak menyelesaikan masalah, ia malah menciptakan masalah masalah sosial baru yang lebih pelik. Redefinisi penjara mencoba untuk melihat dan mempertanyakan kembali fungsi penjara dan perannya dalam institusi hukum yang memiliki kewenangan tidak hanya dalam menjalani putusan hukuman para narapidana, namun juga dapat merehabilitasi mereka menuju arah yang lebih baik dengan memperhatikan hak dan harga diri mereka. Konsep Architectural Behaviour yang akan dibawa pada proposal ini didasari pada bagaimana arsitektur dapat berperan sebagai sebuah sistem yang membentuk perilaku dan kepribadian bagi subjek yang berada dan berinteraksi dengannya, yang dalam hal ini ialah penjara itu sendiri.

Criminality have existed since the time when Prophet Adam stole the forbidden fruit and was expelled from heaven to the modern age. The forms of punishment imposed on these crimes are also vary, ranging from mediation, confinement to execution. And after various kinds of trial and error, a system of human condemnation which we call prison, was born. Prison is a system of punishment for humans who doing a crime, which ended from detention to execution, which of course has been supported by the law that applies to those region. But over time, the presence of prisons is considered not to solve the problem, it instead creates a new social problems that are more complicated to solve. Prison redefinition tries to look at it and questioning the function of prisons and their role in legal institutions that have the authority to not only to undergo convictions, but also to rehabilitate them towards a better direction by considering to their rights and dignity. The concept of Architectural Behavior that will be brought to this proposal is based on how architecture can act as a system that shapes behavior and personality for subjects who are and interact with it, which in this case is the prison itself.
