Abstract

Ship resistance and propulsion are predicted by doing some model test at Hydrodynamics Laboratory. Besides, the values are also can be predicted by a numerical approach. The problem of those two methods is how is the difference between the results given. This research shown the comparison between both methods made the difference between two methods known. The experiment is done at Indonesian Hydrodynamics Laboratory (IHL). Where the numerical analysis is done in this research. The ship model, which used in this research, is 75m Patrol Ship. From the description, can be concluded the goal of this research, there are to find the difference of total resistance (RT) values in each speed chosen, to find the propeller performance diagram in open water test, and to find the difference of total of power (Shaft Horse Power) needed in each speed chosen. To achieve every goal, the ship resistance values are calculated. In this stage, to find the value of total resistance the Holtrop-Mannen numerical method is used. Then, the 3D modeling of propeller is done and the 3D model is used in open water simulations. In this simulation, computational fluid dynamics software is used. The software used is NUMECA Fine/Marine. The value of total resistance and the result of open water test are used to carry out actuator disc simulation and power calculation. The result of this research is the total resistance values difference is founded with an average of difference by 11,71%. The two curves shown in the comparison diagram has a different patterns. The propeller performance diagram is acquired. Then, in the power comparison, the average of power values in each speed chosen is 8,96%. The conclusion of this research is the numerical method have a weakness, that limited by characteristic and type of ship used.
