Abstract

Since the massive eruption in 2010, people around the slopes of Mount Merapi have begun to develop new livelihoods, namely through the tourism sector. Starting from the many visitors both locally and from outside the area came to see the remnants of the eruption of Mount Merapi. Since then facilities have emerged to support the tourism sector on the slopes of Mount Merapi, ranging from lodging to food stalls and souvenirs. But in the midst of growing tourism potential, the risk of Mount Merapi eruption still endangers all activities around Mount Merapi. Starting from pyroclastic Flow, volcanic ash, to hot lava flows that can result in material losses to loss of life. Based on this phenomenon, it is necessary to have facilities that can accommodate tourism potential but still pay attention to the risk aspects of the eruption of Mount Merapi. The response of the architecture presented is a Hotel that able to recording Merapi’s eruption impact to environment condition change but also can protect tourists from eruption hazard. The Adaptable Building approach is the main approach applied in the design object. Changing environmental conditions in the area with facades that are adaptive to meet the occupant’s safety aspects.
