Abstract

Lifts or elevators are now increasingly used as vertical transportation for people or goods in multi-story buildings, ranging from two floors upward. The elevator moves up or down on demand, and the door opens automatically when the elevator reaches the intended floor. As a simulation medium for the elevator control program, a miniature 4-floor elevator was built. As the elevator's driving mechanism, a 12V DC motor equipped with a gearbox as a reducer was used, while the automatic door drive motor for the elevator cabin (serving as the elevator's access point) also uses a 12V DC motor. To determine the position of the elevator cabin, micro limit switches were installed on each floor, while additional micro limit switches function as safety limits, installed at the upper maximum limit before the machine room and the lower minimum limit before the ground floor (pit depth). The elevator cabin is equipped with 4 (four) numeric buttons, while on the outside of the elevator (hall) on each floor, call buttons (up/down) are installed, equipped with a dot matrix display serving as a floor position indicator (in the form of numbers) and an arrow indicator showing the elevator's upward or downward movement. The results of this Final Project show that the Arduino is capable of running the program for a 4-floor elevator. This Final Project also serves as an alternative elevator controller that can reduce production costs for an elevator. Compared to existing controllers, this elevator control system differs in the number of I/O used and is also more efficient.
