Abstract

Penelitian tentang performa, proses pembakaran dan emisi gas buang mesin diesel telah banyak dilakukan peneliti terdahulu. Pada umumnya penelitian dilakukan dengan cara modifikasi mesin, penambahan peralatan, metode-metode yang menggunakan bermacam-macam jenis bahan bakar terbarukan. Pemakaian udara bertekanan terus berkembang dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan performa mesin. Dalam penelitian ini dilaksanakan eksperimen dengan modifikasi udara masuk yang bertekanan terhadap mesin diesel merk Yanmar, model TF 85 MH, Single Cylinder, Four Stroke, Water Cooled, Direct Injection, Naturally Aspirated. Metode yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dengan bahan bakar biosolar Pertamina B20 untuk mengetahui pengaruh udara bertekanan terhadap performa, proses pembakaran dan emisi gas buang mesin. Adapun peralatan yang digunakan berupa suatu sistem yang dapat memberikan suplai udara dengan besaran tekanan pada variasi 50 kPa dan 100 kPa. Mesin dioperasikan dengan variasi beban dan putaran untuk dianalisa performa, pembakaran dan emisi gas buang yang terjadi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan udara bertekanan hingga 100 kPa dapat meningkatkan performa, karakteristik pembakaran termasuk menurunkan knocking pada mesin. Emisi yang dihasilkan oleh engine yang mencakup NOx, CO dan Paticulate Matter dapat diturunkan dengan penambahan udara bertekanan pada ruang bakar, khususnya pada tekanan 50 kPa.

Research on the performance, combustion process and exhaust emissions of diesel engines has been carried out by many previous researchers. In general, research is done by modifying machines, adding equipment, methods that use various types of renewable fuels. The use of pressurized air continues to grow with the aim of improving engine performance. In this study an experiment was carried out with modification of pressurized intake air to the Yanmar diesel engine, TF 85 MH model, Single Cylinder, Four Stroke, Water Cooled, Direct Injection, Naturally Aspirated. The method used is an experiment with Pertamina B20 biodiesel fuel to determine the effect of pressurized air on performance, combustion process and engine exhaust emissions. The equipment used in the form of a system that can provide air supply with the amount of pressure in variations of 50 kPa and 100 kPa. The machine is operated with variations in load and rotation to analyze the performance, combustion and exhaust emissions that occur. The results showed that an increase in pressurized air up to 100 kPa could improve performance, combustion characteristics including lowering knocking on the engine. Emissions produced by engines that include NOx, CO and Paticulate Matter can be reduced by adding pressurized air to the combustion chamber, especially at a pressure of 50 kPa.
