Abstract

=====================================================================================================================================
RC Car is an unmanned car that is controled by a remote control. Nowadays, RC Car has become a hobbies by various ages from children to adults. RC Car itself has many types of RC Car from racing to offroad and has prices ranging from tens of thousands of rupiah to millions of rupiah. The types of RC Car have their own advantages compared to other RC Car types, such as the type of offroad that has cruising power in extreme fields (steep roads, bushes and puddles). However, along with the price vulnerability, not all offroad RC Car have the ability to explore in all fields due to the use of different engines and materials on the RC Car offroad chassis. Therefore research is conducted to cut production costs with material replacement and design optimization on RC Car chassis with topology optimization methods. In this final assignment research, the RC Car offroad buggy chassis was designed. The design starts with modeling the existing chassis with the 3D model in Solidworks software. Then, static structure simulation is done to find out critical areas in the existing chassis. After knowing the results of the static structure simulation, topology optimization and redesign were carried out to achieve the results that meet the standards, namely, the mass of the chassis to a minimum with the limit of the chassis can withstand the stress and deflection received. If the model meets the standard, then proceed with a 3D printer machine and the results of the prints will be tested directly. From the initial simulation it was found that the existing frame had a total mass and standard maximum total deformation, respectively 70.94 grams and 0.086462 mm. If you replace the existing frame material with PLA and ABS, then the thickness of each frame component must be enlarged up to two and a half times to achieve the maximum total total deformation. To reduce the mass of the frame, topology optimization was performed with variations in retain mass of 70%, 60%, and 50%. And the results of the final simulation of the three design variations concluded that the "best" design was a redesign with a retain mass of 50%. With total mass and standard maximum total deformation, respectively 69.58 grams and 0.06144 mm for PLA while 66.97 grams and 0.07380 mm for ABS. Realization of this design can be carried out and successfully tested even though with several evaluations.
