Abstract
Petani sorgum di Tembelang, Jombang, saat ini masih menggunakan mesin penggiling padi untuk mengupas kulit biji sorgum. Selama ini, hasil penyosohan biji sorgum masih meninggalkan masalah, yaitu perlu dilakukan proses penyosohan sebanyak 5–6 kali dan masih menghasilkan kulit yang belum terkelupas bersih sehingga menimbulkan rasa sepat saat diolah. Oleh karena itu, dirancang mesin pengupas kulit biji sorgum dengan menggunakan sistem rol batu gerinda untuk meningkatkan produktivitas mitra. Proses pembuatan mesin diawali dengan merancang mekanisme rol penyosoh. Perhitungan dimulai dengan mencari gaya pengupasan pada biji sorgum, gaya pengerolan, dan kapasitas yang dihasilkan oleh mesin. Setelah pembuatan mesin, dilakukan pencarian gaya pengupasan pada biji sorgum melalui percobaan, serta dilakukan pengujian mengenai kapasitas sesungguhnya yang dapat dihasilkan oleh mesin pengupas kulit biji sorgum. Dari hasil analisis uji coba mesin, didapatkan gaya pengupasan sebesar 98,1 N. Dari perhitungan daya motor penggerak sebesar 1 HP, dihasilkan putaran sebesar 1875 rpm. Kapasitas produksi yang dihasilkan sebesar 29,55 kg/jam.

Sorghum farmers in Tembelang, Jombang, currently still use rice milling machines to peel sorghum seed husks. So far, the sorghum husking process has left problems, namely the need to repeat the polishing process 5–6 times, while still producing incompletely peeled husks that cause an astringent taste when the sorghum is processed. Therefore, a sorghum seed husking machine using a grinding stone roller system was designed to improve the partner's productivity. The machine manufacturing process began with designing the polishing roller mechanism. Calculations started with determining the husking force required for sorghum seeds, the rolling force, and the capacity produced by the machine. After the machine was built, the husking force acting on the sorghum seeds was determined experimentally, and testing was carried out to determine the actual capacity that the sorghum seed husking machine could produce. From the results of the machine trial analysis, a husking force of 98.1 N was obtained. From the calculation of the drive motor power of 1 HP, a rotational speed of 1875 rpm was produced. The resulting production capacity was 29.55 kg/hour.
