Abstract

Konveksi campuran adalah perpaduan antara konveksi bebas yang disebabkan oleh gaya apung (buoyancy forces) karena adanya perbedaan massa jenis atau kerapatan dan konveksi paksa karena adanya gaya luar (external forces) yang menyebabkan laju perubahan panas meningkat. Sehingga pengaruh gaya luar selain gaya apung pada konveksi bebas menjadi signifikan. Pada penelitian tesis ini, fluida yang dibahas adalah fluida non-Newtonian tipe viskoelastik. Fluida yang memiliki sifat viskositas dan elastisitas yang melewati permukaan sebuah bola, membentuk suatu lapisan tipis yang disebut lapisan batas (boundary layer) karena adanya pengaruh viskositas yang lebih dominan. Lapisan batas yang terbentuk selanjutnya diteliti di sekitar titik stagnasi terendah dengan ketebalan lapisan batas ===================================================================================================== Mixed convection is the combination between free convection that is caused by the buoyancy forces because of the difference for density and forced convection because of the external forces that cause the rate of heat exchange increased. So that, the effect of external forces beside buoyancy forces in free convection to be significant. In this research, the type of fluid is non-Newtonian with the effect of viscoelastic. The viscoelastic fluids past over a surface of sphere form a thin layer that is called by boundary layer because of the effect of dominant viscosity. Further, the obtained boundary layer is analyzed at near the lower stagnation point with the thickness of boundary layer-
