Abstract
Basis gigi tiruan merupakan bagian dari gigi tiruan yang
bertumpu pada jaringan lunak yang menutupi tulang rahang dan
menjadi jangkar gigi tiruan. Bahan yang biasa digunakan adalah
poly(methyl methacrylate), namun memiliki kekurangan pada
sifat mekanik akibat daya serap air tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan
untuk meningkatkan sifat fisik dan mekanik poly(methyl
metahcrylate) dengan cara membentuk kopolimer menggunakan
photopolymerization. Variasi yang diberikan dalam penelitian
adalah penambahan styrene pada komponen liquid resin akrilik
sebesar 10, 20, 30, 40, dan 50 % berat. Resin akrilik termodifikasi
dipolimerisasi menggunakan photoinitiator Irgacure 784 sebesar
1,5 % berat. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan penambahan styrene
40 % berat pada kopolimer memiliki kinerja terbaik jika
dibandingkan dengan penambahan styrene 10, 20, 30, dan 50 %
berat. Pada pengujian didapatkan kopolimer dengan penambahan
styrene 40 % berat memiliki water absorption sebesar 2,40
μg/mm3, solubility sebesar 0,43 μg/mm3, flexural strength sebesar
69,33 MPa, flexural modulus sebesar 1,23 GPa, dan kekerasan
sebesar 82,58 HD. Kopolimer poly(methyl methacrylate-costyrene)
dengan penambahan 40 % berat styrene memiliki nilai
yang mendekati persyaratan sebagai bahan basis gigi tiruan.

Denture base is the part of denture rests on the soft tissue that
covering the jawbone and becomes an anchor of a denture.
Materials commonly used are poly(methyl methacrylate), but
have deficiencies in mechanical properties due to high water
absorption. The study aims to improve the physical and
mechanical properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) with formed
a copolymer using photopolymerization. Variations were given in
this study was the addition of the styrene monomer at the liquid
component in acrylic resin in an amount of 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50
%wt. The modified acrylic resin polymerized using Irgacure
784’s photoinitiator in an amount of 1,5 %wt. The test results
showed the addition of 40 % by weight of styrene copolymer had
the best performance when compared with the addition of styrene
10 , 20 , 30 , and 50 %. In the test obtained by the addition of
styrene had water absorption value of 2,405 μg/mm3, the
solubility of 0,434 μg/mm3, the flexural strength of 69,336 MPa,
the flexural modulus of 1,236 GPa, and hardness of 82,583 HD.
Poly(methyl methacrylate-co-styrene) copolymer with the
addition of 40 %wt styrene had a value close the requirements as
a denture base material.
