ABSTRAK
Perkembangan dunia fashion saat ini membuat permintaan
produk tekstil meningkat. Industri tekstil Z sebagai salah satu
industri tekstil tua di Kota Surabaya berusaha untuk tetap
bersaing dipangsa pasarnya dengan memproduksi berupa
pakaian berwarna gelap. Peningkatan kegiatan produksi yang
tidak diikuti dengan perubahan pada sistem pengolahan IPAL
membuat perubahan pada karakteristik air limbah yang
dikeluarkan oleh industri. Hal ini menyebabkan air yang
dikeluarkan tidak memenuhi baku mutu. Sehingga diperlukan
sebuah evaluasi dari setiap unit dan perencanaan ulang dari
sistem IPAL.
Evaluasi dilakukan dengan mengukur dimensi dari masingmasing
unit IPAL eksisting, menganalisa sampel air limbah, dan
membandingkannya dengan kriteria desain dari masing-masing
unit. Perencanaan ulang dilakukan pada unit yang tidak berfungsi
dengan baik. Biofilter tercelup anaerobik-aerobik adalah salah
satu teknologi yang dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif karena
memiliki banyak kelebihan dari aspek teknis dan finansial
Hasil evaluasi IPAL eksisting adalah semua unit tidak memnuhi
kriteria desain. Hal inilah yang menyebabkanair limbah yang
dihasilkan tidak memenuhi baku mutu. Limbah yang dihasilkan
IPAL eksisting adalah 52,05 mg/L TSS; 899,3 mg/L COD; 182,61
mg/L BOD; dan 31,85 PtCo warna. Rekomendasi berupa
perencanaan ulang menggunakan biofilter tercelup anaerobikaerobik
menghasilkan limbah dengan kadar TSS, COD, BOD,
dan warna secara berurutan adalah 15,93 mg/L; 29,05 mg/L; 2,99
mg/L; dan 2,63 PtCo dengan biaya investasi sebesar Rp
793.175.680.

The growth of fashion, nowadays, makes the demand of the
product increases. The Z textile industry as the one of the oldest
textile industries in Surabaya is keeping its existence to compete
by producing some dark coloured clothes. The increasing of
production activity makes the characteristics of waste water of
this factory changed. However, the waste water treatment plant
(WWTP) of the factory has not been changed. It cause the
decrease of treated water such that it does not fulfill the effluent
standard. Therefore, an evaluation on every unit in the WWTP is
needed. Redesign of the WWTP may be suggested.
Evaluation is conducted by measuring the dimension of the
WWTP’s unit, analyze the waste water sample, and comparing it
to the design criteria of every existed unit. Redesign is conducted
on the units which have not have good performance. A
submerged anaerobic-aerobic biofilter is utilized as an alternative
design since it has many advantages in technical and financial
aspects.
The results of evaluation of the existing WWTP is that all units
do not comply with the design criteria. It causes the quality of
effluent of the WWTP does not fulfill the effluent standard. The
content of some parameters of the effluent are 52.05 mg/L of
TSS; 899.3 mg/L of COD; 1,074.2 mg/L of BOD; and 31.85 PtCo
of colour. It is recommended to redesign the WWTP by using a
submerged anaerobic-aerobic biofilter and activated carbon which
are combined with the existing unit. The new design will give the

quality of treated waste water as follows: TSS = 11.95 mg/L;,
COD = 104.14 mg/L;, BOD = 31.94 mg/L; and colour = 1.97 PtCo
with an investation cost of IDR 1,250,782,921.
