Abstract

Steel is most used in industrial especially in oil and gas field, somehow steel has limiitation in corrosion resistance. Electroplating is one of coating method to solve the problems. This coating uses direct current that is like electrolysis process with variation of voltage at 30, 35, 40, 45 volt, inert metal acts as anode and base metal (specimen) as cathode. Electroplating process result is deposite metal layer on the steel surface (cathode). In this study, graphite is used as the anode, API 5L Grade B as cathode and ZnSO4 solution as electrolyte. Testing of adhesion strength, thickness and corrosion resistance on electroplating results were conducted. From the results are found that increase voltage causes increasing the thickness and adhesive strength. On the other hand, the corrosion rate is decreased. The highest value of thickness and adhesive strength are 45.39 μm and 9.36 Mpa, respectively and the value of lowest corrosion rate is 0.210 mm/y on a 45 volt.
