Abstract

turgor tumbuhan Putri malu.
bentuk gerak putri malu (Mimosa Pudica).

The need of natural lighting in residential units in flats or apartments is
considered very noteworthy, because it directly affects the visual comfort of the
occupants in their daily activity. This is in fact one of the backgrounds of the
creation of sun shading that is required to retain sunlight. In regard to the
biomimetic approach, Mimosa Pudica can be a source of inspiring idea to the
model design of sun shading to analogize the characteristic properties of
thigmonasty in the turgid cell of Mimosa Pudica.
The design method used in this study is analogy method by Nachtigall
(Gruber, 2011). In the geometric processing on the shading’s folding movement,
geometry identification was performed against sun shading’s shape that was
inspired from the thigmonasty motion of Mimosa Pudica. This design takes
sample of one of the apartments in Surabaya, namely Metropolis Apartment, one
of the apartments that became case study due to the insufficient performance of its
façade from the lack of shading on the flat façade’s surface causing the façade to
have poor thermal performance, especially in tropical region.
The result obtained from this design thesis exploration is sun shading as a
problem solver in reducing sun glare in a form of kinetic sun shading design with
a square geometric design model that is capable of providing visual comfort with
openings of 55% on the sun shading with a percentage value of the shadow 68%
32% light for irradiation in June 19th, shadow 67% light 33% for irradiating
months September 15th and 69% light reflection 31% for the month of
December 18th irradiation. For south-facing orientation of the openings are at
30% in December 18th with a value of 70% of light reflection percentage 30%.
This model has a simple mechanism system that is integrated with the residential
unit design with the addition of balcony with the width of 80 cm.
