Abstract

A marine diesel engine used as marine propulsion has a specific
operation. In its operation, there are various fields, weathers, and
ship’s resistances. Moreover, MARPOL rules about exhaust gas
were being tightened. Based on the afore mentioned case, it
requires a design of engine that can resolve these problems, one
of the alternatives is by applying Wide Operating Speed Range
(WOSR). The working principle of WOSR is setting the injection
timing properly to produce large power and low emissions. In this
thesis, power prediction simulation was used. By using the actual
data of engine cycle as an input of simulation data, engine
performance was obtained as expected. From this research, the
powers obtained were similar at speed 1600 rpm – 1800 rpm. At
1600 rpm, it indicated power of 746.4 kW, torque of 4458.23 Nm,
and BSFC of 505.0717 g / Kwh. At 1700 rpm, it indicated power
of 746.85 kW, torque of 4195.22 Nm, and BSFC of 547.3883 g /
kWh. Furthermore, at 1800 rpm, it indicated power of 746.68 kW,
torque of 3961.25 Nm, and BSFC of 587.0963 g / kWh.
