Abstract
Tahanan pada barge yang beroperasi pada kondisi beban
penuh akan lebih besar bila dibandingkan dengan kondisi barge
yang dioperasikan pada beban kosong. Perbedaan tahanan ini akan
ditanggung oleh tug boat yang akan menarik barge tersebut. Pada
saat kondisi towing dan free running tug boat membutuhkan
kecepatan yang sesuai. Perubahan kecepatan ini akan menyebabkan
perubahan putaran dan daya yang sesuai untuk operasional tersebut.
Salah satu solusinya dengan menggunakan engine jenis Wide
Operating Speed Range (WOSR) seperti engine Caterpillar Type
C32 ACERT yang dapat beroperasi pada daya 1000 HP di RPM
1600-1800. Metode yang digunakan yaitu dengan memvariasikan
kecepatan dan beragam alternatif rasio gearbox untuk memudahkan
pemilihan propulsi dalam engine propeller matching maka
diperoleh hasil penggunaan WOSR untuk tug boat paling optimal
terletak pada kecepatan 4 knot saat towing dan 9 knot saat free
running dengan alternatif rasio gearbox 1:5.591.

Resistant on a barge operating at full load conditions will be greater
compared to the barge that is operated at empty load. The resistant
difference will be borne by tug boat that will tow the barge. At
towing and free running conditions, tug boat needs accurate speed.
This speed change will cause changes in rotation and power
appropriate to the operation. One of the solution is to use engine
types Wide Operating Speed Range (WOSR) such as Caterpillar
Type C32 ACERT engine that can operate on power 1000 HP at
1600 to 1800 RPM. The method used in this thesis was is varying
the speed and variety of alternative gearbox ratios to facilitate the
selection of the engine propeller matching and The most optimal
result of the use of WOSR for tug boat was at the speed of 4 knots
while towing and 9 knots while free running with alternative
gearbox ratio of 1: 5,591.
