Abstract
Bertumbuhnya kota menuju metropolitan mendorong adanya penutupan ruang dengan
fungsi dan guna yang berbeda. Kota Surabaya, telah mengalami penumpukan layer ruang
hingga identitasnya semakin pudar. Dalam pencarian identitas, dilakukan penelusuran
perkembangan Surabaya, yang disimpulkan dengan Kampung sebagai elemen kunci.
Kampung, adalah sebuah fragmen kota yang secara kasat mata memberikan makna ruang
yang mencerminkan identitas melalui berbagai entitas yang berbeda-beda. Guna menjawab
permasalahan bagaimana arsitektur mampu menjadi ruang retrospeksi identitas kota,
digunakan metode Timeless Way of Building oleh Christopher Alexander, dengan
pendekatan simbiosis oleh Kisho Kurokawa yang diterjemahkan dalam konteks urban.
Memanfaatkan Kampung Surabaya sebagai elemen rancangan utama, mengambil intisari
program, bentukan arsitektur, hingga sekuen. ========== The growth of the city when transforming into metropolis, push a superimposition of
space with a gap in the term of use and function. Surabaya, has experiencing that
superimposition in these past years, resulting the main identity far from peoples
acknowledgement.In the long search of the identity, we could measured that Kampoong is the
main key of Surabayas growth.Kampoong, is a city fragment that gives example of the soul
of space that determined by the identity, in so many different entities. To answer the problem
of creating an architecture that can be the a space of the citys retrospection, we used the
Timeless Way of Building by Christopher Alexander as a method, with the Kisho Kurokawas
Philosophy of Symbiosis as the approach that translated in urban context. With the Surabayas
Kampoong as the main design element, we filtered the program, architectural element, until
the sequence.
