Abstract

=========================================================================================================== The increasing needs of oil and gas industries require high technology for doing exploration and exploitation. Nowadays, the exploration has reached to deep sea, which often to use subsea pipeline for its transportation system. There are many aspects to be concerned about in subsea pipeline operation to overcome pipeline failure. This thesis will discuss about the phenomenon of pipeline walking which can lead to pipeline failure. Due to high temperature and pressure during start up phase, the pipeline can expand nevertheless as a result of frictional resistance which is directionally against expansion force, thus the pipeline can not back to the initial position in shut down phase. There are many factors that affect the occurrence of pipeline walking, such as thermal gradient along pipeline, the seabed slope, and tension created by steel catenary riser. The objective of this thesis is to get the value of walking per cycle due to tension created by steel catenary riser equal to 0,078 m per cycle. Furthermore, this thesis will discuss about the maximum stress of the pipeline which is not affected by tension of steel catenary riser and is affected by tension of steel catenary riser that has value respectively 337,59 MPa and 347,35 MPa. Whereas the displacement along the pipeline which is not affected by tension of steel catenary riser and is affected by tension of steel catenary riser that has value respectively 0,014231 m and 0,015202 m.
