Abstract

The k-factor is one of the cause of harmonic currents that emerge overheating in the transformer. A Special transformer is designed to be used at non-linear loads with certain K-factor rating standards. When the k-factor exceeds the standard, a K-rated transformer or a derated standard transformer becomes necessary to use. Based on IEEE C57.100-1986. However, in its implementation, the installation of the distribution transformer at PLN ULP Rungkut has not determined the value of the derating factor that can affect the quality or life of the transformer. Therefore, in this Final Project, an analysis is carried out on the transformer with three types of load which are household, business, and industry which give significant results regarding to the different types of load on harmonics and the k-factor value of the distribution transformer. THD in voltage and current measurement characteristics at peak load time (PLT) will also be compared with IEEE standards. Measurement results and analysis of THD of current and voltage for each type of load at peak load times (PLT) are still in accordance with the IEEE standard 519 "IEEE Practical Recommendations and requirements for harmonic control in electricity in the Electric Power System ", except for the BE 554 Phase S Transformer, it is not in accordance with the standard THD current value of 16.83%. The k-factor value which has been calculated for three phases shows that the type of household and business load has the highest k-factor data trend. This causes, the type of household, business, and industry customer greatly determines the k-factor value. From the calculation of the derating factor (D), the distribution transformer capacity installed is compatible with the loading of the transformer and not exceeding the recommended on-load capacity. This shows that the transformer is on safe condition to use so the uprating transformer is unneccesary. However, this data can be aimed for expenses that occur today.
