Abstract

The remotely monitored system in long-distance is one of the wireless sensor network application that can be found. Wireless Sensor Network is a network that connects several sensors scattered in different locations and are able to communicate one another wirelessly, thus forming a system with a purpose. These sensors or nodes are capable of forwarding data for routing requirement. Routing itself is a data transmission mechanism simply by sending the information through sensors until it forms a route or track. One type of routing in wireless sensor network is random walk routing algorithm. Random walk routing algorithm also called random walk, is a type of routing in which the routing pattern or the direction of route is moving randomly. By giving a limitation on how it works, the unpredictability characteristics is resolved. However, another problem arises as there is a possibility that the information find it’s way to a dead-end leading to failure transmission. In this Final Project, the random walk routing algorithm will be modified and combined with backtrack method to reduce the probability of failure from occurring. The performance parameters would be transmission delay in the form of amount of jumps taken. Measurement would be carried out in a WSN consisting of 15 and 50 nodes with the help of NSG2 and MATLAB. Simulation results shows that the combined backtrack and modified random walk capable to resolve dead-end problem on the 15 and 50 nodes WSN with 12,67% average increase. The use of backtrack in dead-end problems also increase the number of hops taken between 3-9 and approximately 6,5 in average.
