Abstract

Pipelines are known as the safest of transportation to distribute fluids in both liquid and gas forms. As other equipment in general, the pipe can also fail and require an inspection program. The emergence of a failure on the pipe will have an impact on the community around the pipeline as well as damage and pollution to the environment. One of the main causes of failure of the pipe is corrosion. Therefore, it is necessary to have a risk assessment to determine the probability of failure, the consequences of failure, and the level of risk in the piping system, especially against corrosion. Pipeline risk assessment is one of the best methods for identifying a potential event, not only that causes of operational disruption but also in events related to safety and environmental problems. This study discusses the risk assessment on the crude oil distribution pipeline from GS-3 (Gathering Station) to NBS (North Booster Station) along 11.1 km. Risk assessment in this study uses API 581 code and is conducted semi quantitatively in which the calculation of the probability of failure using the Monte Carlo simulation method is 0.0149 and the consequence of failure is the area affected by leakage which is 2094.77 ft2. So, we get the results of the level of risk in the 12" crude oil pipe from GS-3 to NBS owned by PT. X is included in the medium or medium category.
