Abstract

Biodiesel adalah bahan bakar terbarukan dari tumbuhan atau lemak hewan yang ramah lingkungan karena memiliki kadar sulfur yang rendah dibandingkan bahan bakar fosil yang ketersediannya semakin terbatas. Tetapi bahan bakar dari tumbuhan atau lemak hewan memeliki kelemahan yaitu mudah terdegradasi dalam proses penyimpanannya. Dan salah satu dari sekian banyak olahan bioedisel adalah B-20 yang merupakan bahan bakar diesel campuran minyak nabati 20% dan minyak bumi (petroleum diesel) 80%. Dalam penelitian ini akan diketahui bagaimana pengaruh biodiesel storage terhadap peforma dan emisi engine diesel.
Penelitian ini dimulai dengan perancangan tangki penyimpanan dari material steel, kapasitas 50liter dengan pengondisian tangki bahan bakar disimpan di ruangan terbuka yang terekspos matahari langsung. Penyimpanan dilakukan selama 12 minggu dan dilakukan pengujian fisik, kimia dan kontaminasi mikroba setiap 4 minggu sekali. Selajutnya juga dilakukan uji unjuk kerja dan emisi gas buang pada engine diesel. Yang nantinya dibandingan dengan bahan bakar pembading Dexlite (B0) dan B20 yang disimpan di ruangan tertutup. Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan bahan bakar B20 yang disimpan diruangan terbuka memiliki kontaminasi mikroba tertinggi dibandingkan B0 dan B20 yang disimpan diruangan tertutup dengan nilai peningkatan sebesar 999,9%, selain itu terjadi peningkatan propestis bahan bakar selama masa penyimpanan seperti densitas, viskositas, acid value dan water content. Sedangkan untuk performa engine mengalami penurunan, seperti penurunan efisiensi termal sebesar 2,5% lebih besar dari B20. Dan kenaikan konsumsi bahan bakar spesifik tiap bulan sebesar 3,5% lebih besar dari 2 bahan bakar lainnya. Untuk emisi gas buang bahan bakar B20 terekspos matahari mengalami penurunan yaitu penurunan kadar partikulat, HC dan CO setiap bulannya masing-masing sebesar 5,7%,12,4%, dan 18,8%, nilai tersebut paling rendah dibandingkan 2 bahan bakar lainnya.

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel from plants or animal fats that is environmentally friendly because it has a low sulfur content from fossil fuels whose availability is increasingly limited. And one of the many processed bioedicine is B-20 which is a diesel fuel mixture of 20% vegetable oil and petroleum diesel 80%. In this research, it will be known how the effect of biodiesel storage on diesel engine performance and emissions. The research began with the design of a steel storage tank, 50 liters capacity by conditioning the fuel tank stored in an open space exposed to direct sunlight. Storage is carried out for 12 weeks and physical, chemical and microbial contamination is tested every 4 weeks. Furthermore, performance tests and exhaust emissions are also tested on diesel engines. Which will be compared with Dexlite (B0) and B20 compare fuel stored in a closed room. The results showed that B20 fuel stored in the open room had the highest microbial contamination compared to B0 and B20 stored in a closed room with an increase in value of 999.9%, in addition there was an increase in fuel propagation during the storage period such as density, viscosity, acid value and water content. As for engine performance has decreased, such as a decrease in thermal efficiency by 2.5% greater than the B20. And the increase in specific fuel consumption every month by 3.5% d is greater than the other 2 fuels. For gas emissions of B20 fuel exposed to the sun decreased, namely decreased levels of particulate matter, HC and CO each month by 5.7%, 12.4%, and 18.8%, the value is the lowest compared to 2 other fuels.
