Abstract

The aluminum smelting process produces a large number of by-products, known as slags that can be reused for landfill. Smelting waste contains aluminum in the form of alumina at high concentration (around 15%). Aluminum in the waste can react with water and produce corrosion products. Therefore, this study the waste will be used in synthesis sodalite. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with Box-Behnken Design is used for optimization in the leaching process. Waste treatment using hydrochloric acid 2 M with variations of solid to liquid 1,5%; 2,0%; and 2,5%, heated at 50℃; 60℃; and 70℃ and sonication time of 2, 4 and 6 hours. The efficiency evaluation of aluminum recovery was carried out using RSM show that aluminum recovery in the leached residue was optimum by leaching at 70 ° C for 2 hours with a solid to liquid ratio of 2.5%. In this study, leached residue was used for synthesis sodalite. The synthesized sodalite was characterized using FTIR and XRD. The XRD characterization results showed characteristic peaks at 2θ=25,49 and 34,46 according to the sodalite standar. The FTIR spectra the absorption band at the wave number in accordance with the approved sodalite. The results of characterization show that synthesis sodalite is successful.
