Abstract

Bone implants are medical devices made of metal that are implanted into the body to replace the structure and function of body parts, especially bones. In this study aims to determine the ratio of corrosion rates with variations of immersion for 12 hours, 168 hours, 240 hours and 336 hours between ST 41 steel coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) and SS 316 L. Where SS 316 L itself is commonly used for implant material bone. The types of tests conducted in this study are Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Potentiodynamic Polarization (PDP), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Scanning Electron Microscopy of energy dispersive x-ray (SEM - EDX). The test results showed an increase in the rate of corrosion in each specimen during soaking for 168 hours. Potentiodynamic polarization testing showed the highest corrosion rate in ST 41 specimens coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) during immersion for 168 hours with a corrosion rate of 0.014261 mm / year. While the lowest value on ST 41 specimens coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) with a corrosion rate value of 0,00092597 mm / year.
