Abstract

Pembelajaran kimia yang berbasis pada masalah (PBL) melibatkan
aktivitas-aktivitas sains dalam proses perolehan pengetahuan dan pengembangan
kemampuan berpikir pada peserta didik sehingga adanya laboratorium diperlukan
sebagai sarana pembelajaran. Akan tetapi, sarana laboratorium sebagai pendukung
aktivitas proses sains peserta didik terkadang belum dapat dimanfatkan secara
optimal baik karena keterbatasan alat maupun biaya. Selain itu, pembelajaran
kimia pada pendidikan formal umumnya belum terintegrasi secara optimal dengan
cabang ilmu lain sehingga diperlukan suatu pendekatan pembelajaran terintegrasi
yang berbasis laboratorium. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media
pembelajaran untuk pembelajaran berbasis STEM berupa sistem pendeteksi gas
karbon dioksida (CO2) yang dilengkapi dengan modul interaktif STEM.
Penelitian ini diawali dengan pembuatan modul dan sistem pendeteksi gas
CO2 yang tersusun atas sensor berbahan oksida logam semikonduktor SnO2, CDM
4160. Sistem pendeteksi gas dikalibrasi dengan menggunakan flowmeter. Media
pembelajaran STEM divalidasi dan diimplementasikan pada pembelajaran kimia
SMA/SMK. Uji coba lapangan dilakukan pada siswa kelas X SMK untuk kelas
eksperimen dan kontrol. Media yang dikembangkan pembelajaran sistem
pendeteksi gas CO2 yang terintegrasi dengan bidang ilmu fisika, matematika, dan
teknologi informasi.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem pendeteksi gas CO2 yang telah
divalidasi oleh 3 dosen kimia dan 2 guru kimia SMA/SMK layak untuk digunakan
sebagai media pembelajaran kimia terintegrasi berbasis STEM, dengan skor
kelayakan sistem pendeteksi gas CO2 sebesar 3,42 dan modul interaktif STEM
sebesar 3,33. Uji coba lapangan dilakukan pada 33 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 33
siswa kelas kontrol di SMKN 5 Surabaya. Berdasarkan hasil uji coba lapangan,
terdapat perbedaan hasil belajar yang signifikan baik pada aspek kognitif, afektif,
dan psikomotor.

Learning chemistry based on the problem (PBL) involves scientific
activities in the process of acquisition of knowledge and the development of
thinking skills in learners so that laboratory is necessary as a learning tool. Yet,
laboratory instruments to support science activities sometimes have not been
optimally used because of limited equipment and costs. In addition, chemistry
learning in formal education have not been optimally integrated with other
disciplines so that it is necessary to apply integrated laboratory-based in chemistry
learning. This study aims to develop a mini-scale laboratory equipment for STEM
based learning in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2) detection system which is
equipped with an interactive STEM module as chemistry learning media.
This research begun with the fabricating of carbon dioxide detection
system which was composed of semiconductor SnO2 based sensor, CDM 4160.
Carbon dioxide gas detection system was calibrated by using flowmeter. STEM
instructional media was validated and implemented in chemistry learning for high
or vocational school. Field trial conducted on state vocational school students in
grade X on experimental and control group. Learning media which was developed
integrated with physics, mathematics, and technology information.
Results of this research showed that CO2 detection system and interactive
STEM interactive module which was validated by 3 lecturers and 2 chemistry
teachers is valid to be used as STEM chemistry learning media, with the validity
score of CO2 detection system 3,42 and STEM interactive module 3,33. Field
trial was done on 33 students of experimental group and 33 students of control
group in State Vocational High School 5 Surabaya. Based on the result of field
trial could be concluded that there was a significant difference in students learning
outcome on cognitive, affective, and psychomotoric aspect between experimental
and control group.
