Abstract
Teknologi dalam pengelasan semakin berkembang dengan pesat dimana untuk memperbaiki hasil pengelasan dilakukan proses Preheat, yang bertujuan untuk mengurangi nilai perubahan bentuk / Distorsi akibat dari proses pengelasan. Dalam dunia industri jika barang yang diproduksi seperti heat exchanger, pressure vessel dan lain lain biasanya dalam proses repair selalu dilakukan proses preheat dahulu sebelum proses pengelasan, biasanya dalam pembuatanya menggunakan material SA 516 gr 70 yang memang diperuntukan untuk bejana tekan dan harus mempunyai nilai keamanan yang tinggi.
Dari penelitian ini akan membandingkan variasi suhu preheat terhadap sifat mekanis dari material dengan pengujian hardness test, impact test dan makroetsa, dengan proses preheat 00C (tanpa preheat),1500C,2000C, dan 2500C.
Dari hasil penelitian yang didapatkan semakin tinggi temperatur preheat maka nilai kekerasan dari material akan turun dan ketangguhanya meningkat, nilai kekerasan rata-rata paling rendah terdapat pada daerah base metal dan yang paling tinggi pada daerah weld metal. Sedangkan nilai ketangguhan paling tinggi di peroleh pada daerah base metal yang dikenakan preheat 2500C.

In welding technology is growing by leaps and bounds in which to fix the results of the welding done preheat process, which aims to reduce the value of deformation / distortion due to the welding process. In the industrial world if the goods are produced such as heat exchanger, pressure vessels and others are usually in the repair process is always done preheat process before the welding process, in the manufacture of heat exchanger material that is often used is a material SA 516 gr 70 which is intended for pressure vessel and must have high security value. This research will compare preheat temperature variation of the mechanical properties of the material by testing Hardness Test, Impact Test and Makroetsa, with process variation preheat, no preheat, preheat 1500C, 2000C preheat and preheat 2500C. From the results obtained, the higher the preheat temperature, the hardness of the material will go down and the value of increased toughness, hardness value of the lowest average, contained in base metal regions, and the highest are in the area of weld metal. While most high toughness values obtained in base metal regions which do preheat 2500C.
