Abstract
Indonesia merupakan Negara kaya akan hasil laut baik berupa komoditas ikan, udang maupun rumput laut. Produksi perikanan tangkap tahun 2014 adalah sebanyak 6.200.180 ton atau 102,05 % dari target yang telah ditetapkan. Kemampuan ekspor produksi perikanan laut pada kurun waktu 2010 – 2014 untuk TTC ( Tongkol, Tuna, Cakalang) juga meningkat sebesar 18,96% pertahun ( KKP,2014). Melimpahnya hasil produksi ini belum sebanding dengan ketersediaan cold storage yang ada di Indonesia. Kemampuan tampung cold storage yang ada di Indonesia pada tahun 2014 hanya sebesar 7,2 juta ton pertahun sedangkan produksi mencapai 14 juta ton pertahun ( www.industri.kontan.co.id, 2014). Saat ini jenis cold storage yang digunakan di Indonesia masih berupa cold storage konvensional yang memanfaatkan mesin refrigerasi dengan refrigerant berupa CFC dan Freon dalam kadar tertentu. Selain masalah refrigerant yang tidak ramah lingkungan, cold storage konvensional juga memiliki satu masalah lagi yakni kebutuhan daya yang cukup besar untuk menurunkan temperature ruang muat.

Saat ini salah satu diskusi paling signifikan mengenai penyimpanan energi adalah penggunaan Phase Change Material (PCM) untuk penyimpanan energi termal. PCMs mampu menyerap dan melepaskan sejumlah besar kalor laten sesuai dengan peningkatan dan penurunan suhu lingkungan. Penggunaan Phase Change Material dan modifikasi aliran udara didalam cold storage diharapkan dapat menjaga temperatur tempat penyimpanan sesuai dengan kebutuhan lamanya penyimpanan. Berdasarkan data hasil percobaan didapatkan kecenderungan bahwa semakin banyak PCM digunakan maka semakin lama pula temperatur rendah bertahan atau dalam kata lain kenaikan temperatur dapat ditahan. Data percobaan menunjukkan lamanya waktu kompressor berhenti untuk percobaan tanpa PCM, 0,5 Kg PCM, 1 Kg PCM, 2 Kg PCM secara berurutan adalah 17 menit, 31 menit, 40 menit, dan 70 menit. Berdasarkan data tersebut dapat dikalkulasikan cost saving karena kompressor mati per bulan terbesar adalah Rp. 237.830,91 untuk penggunaan 2 Kg PCM

Indonesia is a maritime country that riches in products such as fish, shrimp, and seaweed commodity. Fisheries production in 2014 was as much as 6.200.180 tons or about 102.05 % of the set target. Export capabilities of marine production in the period 2010 – 2014 for TTC (Tuna, Tongkol, Cakalang) also increased by 18.96% per year. The abundance of these production capabilities is not comparable with the availability of the cold storage in Indonesia. The ability of cold storage capacity in Indonesia in 2014 only amounted to 7.2 million tons per year, meanwhile the production had reached 14 million tons per year ( www.industri.kontan.co.id, 2014). Nowadays, the type of cold storage used in Indonesia is still a conventional cold storage that uses the refrigeration machine with a refrigerant such as CFC and Freon in a certain degree. In addition, to the problem of environmentally unfriendly refrigerants, the conventional cold storage also has another problem in which it needs a quite large power to produce lower temperature.

Now, the most significant discussion regarding to the energy storage is the use of Phase Change Material (PCM) for thermal energy storage. PCMs are able to absorb and release large amounts of latent heat in accordance to the increment and reduction of the ambient temperature. The use of Phase change Material and modification of the air flow inside the cold storage is expected to keep the temperature of the storage fit in with the needs of storage duration. Based on the experimental data, it can be found that the more PCM used, the longer the low temperatures can be persisted or in other words the rise of temperature can be held. The experimental data shows the durations of the compressor to stop for the experiment without PCM, 0.5 kg PCM, 1 Kg PCM, 2 Kg PCM respectively are 17 minutes, 31 minutes, 40 minutes, and 70 minutes. Based on these data, it can be calculated the cost saving caused by the use of 2 Kg PCM is 237.830,91 rupiahs per month
