Abstract

Setelah sudu turbin stage pertama dioperasikan selama 78.164
mekanisme penyebab terjadinya separasi TBC.
TBC yttria-stabilized zirconia (TBC YSZ). Analisa awal dilakukan
dengan melakukan pengamatan makro. Selanjutnya dilakukan
akibat pengoperasian. Pengamatan struktur mikro pada TBC
dilakukan untuk melihat mekanisme kerusakan yang terjadi
menggunakan mikroskop optik dan scan electron microscope –
energy dispersion x-ray (SEM-EDX). Pengujian kekerasan
7%wt yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ). Mekanisme terjadinya
lapisan thermal grown oxide (TGO), sehingga menyebabkan
top-coat sehingga memudahkan terjadinya separasi

Gas turbine is one of main component in steam power plant
that has a function to convert energy of gas from combustion
chamber to mechanic energy to rotate the electric generator. Blade
turbine in gas turbine is important in conversion process. With
high temperature operating environment at 1150°C, first stage
blade need to be coating by thermal barrier coating (TBC) to
decrease the temperature in base material. After 78.164 equivalent
operating hour (EOH), there is a failure in TBC on first stage blade.
Therefore it is necessary to do an analysis to find spallation
mechanism of TBC on first stage blade.
Sample used in this analysis is one first stage blade turbine
with nickel-based superalloy as base material and coated with TBC
yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ). Analysis begun with macro
observation then x-ray diffraction (XRD) examination to determine
the composition in TBC and some product that may be formed after
operated. Microstructure observation done by optic microscope
and scan electron microscope – energy dispersion x-ray (SEMEDX)
to find spallation mechanism of TBC. Microhardness
examination was done to find hardness number of TBCs layers.
Result of this analysis shown that TBC on first stage gas
turbine type is air-plasma sprayed (APS) with composition of 7%wt
YSZ. Spallation mechanism of TBC caused by thermal fatigue
consequent to mismatch thermal expansion coefficient of TBCs
layers and thickness of thermal grown oxide (TGO) layer. It caused
to raise the tensile and compressive stress in between TBCs layers.
That stress will initiated microcrack on top-coat layer so it easier
for spallation to happen.
