Abstract
Pengetahuan seorang desainer pakaian mengenai jenis-jenis material kain
sangat penting dalam pengembangan sebuah desain. Pemilihan jenis material kain
yang baik, akan menghasilkan desain yang menarik dan nyaman. Di Indonesia,
banyak jenis material tekstil yang tersedia dan beragam sehingga desain-desain
yang ada dapat dieksplorasi lebih jauh. Perbedaan pendapat dalam menyebutkan
nama suatu material tekstil dan kurangnya pemahaman dalam mempelajari jenisjenis
material tekstil dapat mempengaruhi kreatifitas rancangan para desainer
pemula. Perkembangan industri fesyen di Indonesia tidak diikuti dengan adanya
media yang dapat digunakan sebagai panduan memahami jenis-jenis material.
Perancangan ini pun dibuat untuk memecahkan masalah tersebut. Proses
perancangan ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan beberapa metode penelitian yaitu
berupa observasi, depth interview, dan data kuisioner untuk mendapatkan hasil
data primer. Selain itu, juga dilakukan studi data sekunder melalui buku eksisting,
studi komparator, serta buku literatur. Target audiens perancangan ini adalah
desainer fesyen pemula yang merupakan siswa SMK tata busana dan mahasiswa
desain fesyen serta masyarakat umum yang ingin mempelajari tekstil. Big idea
dari perancangan ini adalah “Compact & fashionable dictionary for everyone”
yang memberikan kesan compact, trendy, dan struktural. Penentuan konsep untuk
perancangan ini mengacu pada beberapa analisis yang telah dilakukan kepada
karakter target audiens untuk mendapatkan desain yang tepat sesuai kebutuhan
audiens.
Perancangan ini menghasilkan sebuah buku panduan dasar jenis-jenis
tekstil berupa ensiklopedia visual yang informatif sehingga dapat membantu para
fashion student di SMK ataupun mahasiswa desain fesyen dan masyarakat umum
yang tertarik di industri fashion. Dengan menggunakan komponen pendukung
berupa fotografi dan desain yang modern, terciptalah ensiklopedia visual sehingga
dapat menarik minat masyarakat dalam mempelajari jenis-jenis material tekstil

Knowledge of a clothing designer on the types of fabric material is very
important in the development of a design. Good selection of the type of fabric
materials, will produce a design that is attractive and comfortable. In Indonesia,
many types of textile materials available and a variety of designs so that there
could be further explored. Dissent in the name of a textile material and a lack of
understanding in studying the types of textile materials can affect the creativity of
the novice designer. The development of the fashion industry in Indonesia doesn’t
have any media which can be used as a guide to understand the types of material.
This design was created to solve the problem. The design process was
done using methods of research in the form of observation, depth interview and
questionnaire data to get the primary data. Moreover, also conducted a study for
secondary data through the book of existing, comparator studies, and literature
studies. The target audience of this design is a novice fashion designer vocational
students of fashion and fashion design students and the general public who need
to study textiles. The big idea of this design is "Compact and fashionable
dictionary for everyone" which gives the impression of a compact, trendy, and
structural. Determination of concept for this design refers to some analysis has
been done to the character of the target audience to get the right design according
to the needs of the audience.
This design produces a guidebook basic types of textiles in the form of an
informative visual encyclopedia that can help the student in vocational high
school or fashion design students and the general public who are interested in the
fashion industry. By using visual elements of photography and modern design,
creating a visual encyclopedia that can attract people's interest in studying the
types of textile materials
