Abstract

The tidal observation data in Indonesia is still very limited. These problems can be overcome by utilizing global and regional tidal models. In this study, the prediction elevation data of the models were compared and the error rate was analyzed. The data used in this research are tidal observation data at five tidal stations which are located in Surabaya and surrounding waters. These data have 39 hours duration. A regional model tide elevation data (BIG prediction) and global tidal models (FES2014 and TPXO9) were analyzed to achieve tidal harmonic constituents: M2, S2, K1, O1, Q1, N2, K2, P1, and M4.
Tidal observation data was processed to obtain the quality tidal elevation of 39 hours—likewise, the elevation data for regional model predictions. From the global tidal model (FES2014 and TPXO9), interpolation, and extraction of tidal harmonic constituents are performed at the tidal station point, and then the tidal prediction is done by using the harmonic constituent. Tidal elevation prediction of regional and global models is carried out, shifting correction to equalize the reference to observed tidal elevation. The accuracy calculation is done by calculating the error rate using RMSE.
The RMSE calculation results show that in all tidal stations, the regional model (BIG prediction) has the smallest RMSE value compared to the global tidal model (FES2014 and TPXO9) at three tidal stations namely at Gresik 1, Gresik 2, and Gili Genting with an RMSE value of 0.303 m, 0.050 m, and 0.155 m. At the same time, the TPXO9 global tide model shows the biggest RMSE compared to the regional and global tidal model (BIG Prediction and FES2014) at three tidal stations, namely at the Gresik 1, Gresik 2, and Bangkalan with RMSE values of 0.420 m, 0.195 m, and 0.630 m.
