Abstract

Observation of inland water level can be done directly through the observation of the tide-gauge measurement. However, this method has a weakness that needs direct observation in the field and expensive maintenance costs. Therefore, this research tries to use satellite altimetry data which is commonly used to determine sea level surface. However, this study discusses the use of satellite altimetry data to determine inland water level. The satellite altimetry used in this study were CryoSat-2 and case studies were located at Lake Towuti, South Sulawesi with measurement ranges from 2011 to 2018. The satellite CryoSat-2 was chosen because it had a fairly small footprint of about 300 meters. Satellite altimetry data obtained later compared with in-situ measurement data. The results showed that the application of satellite altimetry CryoSat-2 SAR-Mode Level 2 to determine inland water levels was possible. But the use of data needs to be done so that the result of determination of water level is acceptable.
