Abstract

Nickel is obtained by extracting its ore, namely sulfide ore and laterite ore. With the reduction in sulfide ore reserves on earth, nickel processing has shifted to laterite ore processing. The economical processing of laterite ore at this time is obtained by using selective reduction method. Acquisition of nickel through a selective reduction process is inseparable from the influence of additives. This research aims to determine the effect of additive variations on grade and recovery of selective reduction products and nickel selectivity factors. In general, the method of the selective reduction process is the direct reduction method followed by magnetic separation. Tests are then carried out on the reduced product to determine the grade of nickel obtained, morphology and phases formed on the product. After processing the data, the results obtained are sodium sulfate additives produce the highest increase in nickel content and sodium chloride additives produce the highest nickel recovery value. The results of the calculation of the highest nickel selectivity factor were obtained by the sodium sulfate additive. Keywords: Selective Reduction; Nickel Laterite; Additives; Calcium Sulfate; Sodium Chloride; Sodium Sulfate.
