Abstract

The city of Surabaya is the capital of East Java Province as well as the second largest populous city in Indonesia. Based on its geological conditions, the city of Surabaya is passed by Kendeng Fault which is an active fault and can cause earthquakes. The activity of the Kendeng Fault caused Surabaya City to be vulnerable to land movement or deformation.
This research was conducted to determine the periodic deformation that occurred in the city of Surabaya using the PS-InSAR method with validation using GPS data. The SAR data used consists of 33 Sentinel 1A images of SLC type with the acquisition year 2017-2019.
The results shown that during the observation period, mean Line of Sight (LOS) velocity in the range of -50 mm / year to +20 mm / year with an average standard deviation of 1,948 mm. Most of the land subsidence occurred in the North and East Surabaya region, while the majority of land subsidence or uplift occurred in the central area of Surabaya City (South and West) which is crossed by the Kendeng Fault. Based on geological analysis, these results are in accordance with the type of Kendeng Fault, which is a thrust fault. Validation using 16 GPS point deformation data shows that the results of the PS-InSAR method are very good for use in observing deformation.
