Abstract

The process of mixing powder in fabrication of copper metals matrix composite is one of the important processes for achieving mixed homogeneity. This homogeneity greatly influences the physical and mechanical properties of copper metal matrix composites. In the powder metallurgy method, the use of double cone and v-cone powder mixing machines can reduce segregation of the mixing results and provide high homogeneity for fabrication of copper metal matrix composite. In this review, an analysis of the using mixing powder machine type of double cone and v-cone on homogeneity of mixtures that can affect on physical and mechanical properties in the fabrication of copper metal matrix composites. To support this analysis, eleven journals was collected and doing analysis of homogeneity in terms of SEM tests and optical microscopes by identyfication of powder sizes and mixing process parameters. Furthermore, physical characteristics were analyzed in terms of density and porosity. From the SEM test and optical microscopy showed the homogeneity of the mixture and the degradation of powder size became irregular in both mixing machines. The use of double cone mixer is more effective in homogenizing the mixture with the using of a powder size of 20.6-125 μm, the range of differences between powder sizes ≤ 1: 2, the proportion of powder reinforce 10-40%, variation of 2 powders mixture, and, powder mixing process for 15-45 minutes . From this homogeneity, there are increasing of density value of 5.66% -13% and a decrease in porosity value of 35-57%.
