Abstract

It is estimated that in 2020 there are as many as 25 billion units of used lithium batteries weighing 500 thousand tons and the estimated number of used batteries expires, especially those applied to electric vehicles as many as 6.76 million units in 2035. Recycling used lithium ion batteries is the main alternative source for substituting metal raw materials lithium in nature. Therefore, this literature review aims to analyze the effect of the recycling method used on the morphological and electrochemical performance of active material Li-NMC used batteries from the recycling process. The recycling methods reviewed in this review are solid state reaction, co-precipitation, sol gel and hydrothermal methods. It was found that all the recycling methods of used Li-NMC batteries can improve the crystal structure of the damaged material so that it can restore the electrochemical performance of the material. In this literature review it was found that the most appropriate recycling method used was the sol gel method. Using the sol gel method can produce cathode materials with the smallest and most homogeneous grain size so that it has the highest rate of capability and long cyclic when compared to other methods.
