Abstract

Surabaya east coast water is an aquatic ecosystem that sustain marine biota life. However, it also gets a serious threat of pollution from human activities and shipping. This threat can be represented by Total Suspended Solids (TSS) which is one of parameters for monitoring sea water quality of. Predicting TSS concentrations is an important step in management of water body natural resources, air quality control, coastline protection, and recreation. This can be achieved by utilizing a remote sensing method using Sentinel-2A satellite imagery data. This research used in-situ water sample data which were taken in the month of July 2018 and October 2019. These water samples were tested using the gravimetric method. The Sentinel-2A satellite imagery data was corrected using the Sen2Cor plugin on the SNAP program. This research used Budhiman Algorithm and Parwati Algorithm to find out TSS concentrations from imagery data. The aims of this research are to build a new algorithm model for estimating TSS concentrations in Surabaya east coast water and to understand the alteration of TSS concentration distribution used linear, logarithmic and power regressions in the period of July 2018 and October 2019.
The Budhiman Algorithm has a greater correlation to the in-situ and a smaller NMAE than the Parwati Algorithm. The algorithm for TSS extraction was obtained by determine the best fit between direct observation and imagery data. The algorithm was developed using linear regression of red band atmospheric corrected reflectance whereas the determination coefficient and NMAE are 0,746 and 25,84% respectively. New algorithm validation in the period July 2018 obtained determination coefficient and NMAE are 0,020 and 155,22% respectively. This research showed fluctuations of TSS magnitudes in North Surabaya in the period of July 2018 within 41 mg/l and 128 mg/l. In the period of October 2019, TSS increased along coast of Surabaya East water within 161 mg/l. This higher TSS concentrations are exceed of standard quality limit for marine tourism and marine biota according to Keputusan Menteri Negara Lingkungan Hidup No. 51/2004.
