Abstract

=================================================================================================== Climate change that occurs due to urbanization has an impact on increasing urban temperatures, or commonly referred to as urban heat island (UHI). The effects of urban heat will continue to develop along with the massive growth of built-up land. As a result, damage to the environment and thermal discomfort cannot be avoided. Urban configuration characteristics such as surface material type, urban geometry, and urban green infrastructure play an important role in the adaptation of the phenomenon. However, East Surabaya as one of the areas most affected by UHI has not emphasized adaptation based on urban configuration. Meanwhile, changing the physical urban environment that has been built will be difficult to implement and will require expensive costs. This study aims to develop an adaptation concept based on the characteristics of an urban configuration. This study considers UHI spatial observations on a local scale using the positivist paradigm. The analysis was carried out by observing Landsat imagery to obtain UHI spatial data and LiDAR imagery to identify characteristics of urban configuration variables. The method used in determining the level of influence of variables is ordinary least square (OLS) spatial regression analysis. The model calibration uses the classical assumption and cross-validation (RMSe) methods. Finally, determine the concept of adaptation through the regression results optimization model. Optimization model results obtained on each concept, including cool material, reflective material, pervious material, urban skyline, relationships between buildings, the intensity of spatial use, morphological patterns, green pathways, trees on private land, green material, minimizing water barriers, water bodies small scale on private land and water circulation installations. Cool material is the most effective concept, but each of these concepts can support one another based on the characteristics of the urban configuration. So it can be concluded that the urban configuration also needs to be considered in determining the concept of UHI adaptation.
