Abstract

Based on data from the director of children's social rehabilitation at the social ministry, until August 2017 Indonesia's number of children reached 16,290 children. The abandoned child can come from a variety of factors, such as being expelled from home, death of parents, abandoned parents, divorced parents, natural disasters, and socioeconomic conditions. These conditions can cause mental health problems for children who are victims of neglect. The Child Welfare Institution provided by the government and the private sector as a place to care for disadvantaged children is also not aware of the mental problems that occur.
Based on the phenomena that occur above, an architectural container is needed as a response to existing problems, in the form of an Orphanage with the concept of Therapeutic architecture with Evidence-based design methods that can stimulate users through existing sense to impact on psychology to user behavior.
The main concept in this design is how to stimulate users with positive awareness in themselves, increase interaction between users but still be able to protect their privacy, and increase user interaction with the built environment around them. This concept is applied in architectural elements such as building mass, shape, interior space, outside space, and material in the design.
