Abstract

Magnetic gears are one of the innovations in the development of gears to overcome various problems that arise in mechanical gears. But in magnetic gears the torque generated is not greater than the torque generated in mechanical gears which makes this one of the weaknesses of magnetic gears. To find out the amount of torque produced from the magnetic gear, we need a simulation test using software and experimental testing as a validation of the simulation test.
3D modeling of radial external magnetic spur gear is done using Solidwork software. Then the 3D model that has been made, is input into the Ansys Maxwell 3D software for simulation. The simulation is done with three variations of speed on high speed gear. Then a transient analysis is performed to find the magnitude of the maximum torque on the high speed gear and low speed gear. In the simulation process, it is necessary to make arrangements to adjust the length of data retrieval and timeframe data retrieval. In the experimental process, several stages are carried out, namely the process of assembling equipment and materials by the experiment scheme. Then after everything is has been assembled, the data is taken in the form of maximum torque at each of the three variations in rotational speed. After that, the efficiency of the external magnetic spur gear radial is calculated. Also tested with five variations of loading on the LS rotor to then take the results in the form of torque and rotation ratio.
The results indicate that the closer the water gap is, the greater the torque that can be distributed because of the greater magnetitation value and the greater the rotational speed of the input, the lower the torque that can be distributed is due to the fictive torsion spring effect. From the comparison of simulation and experimental results, it is found that the maximum torque produced in the experimental method is smaller than the simulation method caused by the presence of inhibiting factors such as losses on the bearing and from the load of shaft that used. From the calculations, it can be seen that the efficiency of the bearing is estimated at 97%. The results also obtained from the experiment in the form of efficiency on magnetic gear where the efficiency value is influenced by the power at the input rotor and the power at the output rotor where in this experiment the highest efficiency value is at 110 rpm with a value of 24,39%. In the test results with load variations carried out at a speed of 110 rpm, it was found that the additional load on the LS rotor resulted in a decrease in the rotation ratio and torque on the LS gear with the difference between the differences in each load variation of not more than 10%.
